Leonard de Vinci était un polymathe italien de la Renaissance, dont les domaines d'intérêt comprenaient l'invention, la peinture, la sculpture, l'architecture, la science, la musique, les mathématiques, l'ingénierie, la littérature , astronomie, botanique, écriture, histoire et cartographie. Il a été diversement appelé le père de la paléontologie, de l'ichnologie et de l'architecture, et est largement considéré comme l'un des plus grands peintres de tous les temps. Parfois crédité des inventions du parachute, de l'hélicoptère et du char, il incarne l'idéal humaniste de la Renaissance.

Leonardo da Vinci was an Italian polymath of the Renaissance, whose areas of interest included invention, painting, sculpting, architecture, science, music, mathematics, engineering, literature, anatomy, geology, astronomy, botany, writing, history, and cartography. He has been variously called the father of palaeontology, ichnology, and architecture, and is widely considered one of the greatest painters of all time. Sometimes credited with the inventions of the parachute, helicopter and tank, he epitomised the Renaissance humanist ideal.
